Public house. Early-to-mid C19.
Rendered with painted sandstone dressings and slate roof. Main
building of 3 storeys and 3 bays with chamfered quoins and 1st
floor sill band. The windows have plain stone surrounds and
are sashed. The 2nd floor windows are less tall. The central
bay has blind stone surrounds on the 1st and 2nd floors. Above
the central doorway, which has a plain stone surround, is a
cornice. Gable chimneys.
Adjoining to the left is a 2-storey range, which has chamfered
quoins at the left and a 1st floor sill band. It is of 3
irregular bays.
On the ground floor at the right is a single-storey canted
projection with cornice and blocking course. It has a central
doorway, the 2 sides having fixed lights with glazing bars.
Above is a C20 casement window with plain stone surround. To
the left, in the central bay, is a similar casement with a
painted surround. The other windows are sashed, those on the
gound floor without glazing bars. The left-hand bay has plain
stone surrounds. The central bay on the ground floor has
triple sashes with a painted surround. To the left of the
central window on the 1st floor is an oval date plaque
inscribed 'J & C 1828'.
Projecting forwards at the left is a one-bay addition which
has wide doors on the ground floor, and a 2nd window in the
1st foor in the curved wall which connects it with the main
building.
