Formerly known as: The Prince of Orange PH OLDHAM STREET.
Public house. Probably late C18, altered c.1870. Stucco on
brick (roof concealed). Narrow rectangular plan at
right-angles to street. Three storeys and 2 windows; good inn
front at ground floor including pilasters with scrolled
capitals, carved floral panels, round-headed doorway to left,
round-headed window to right and arched rectangular window in
centre all with carved spandrels and radiating glazing bars in
the fanlights; dentilled frieze and painted fascia with large
ball finials to the end brackets. Each upper floor has a
painted relief panel flanked by sashed windows without glazing
bars: the panel at 1st floor depicts the arrival of William
and Mary, welcomed by Britannia curtseying and presenting a
crown, and by a pair of helmeted women, a parson with raised
arms and an angel with a trumpet, and the panel at 2nd floor
contains the Royal Arms with lion and unicorn. Large panel
between floors painted "THE CITY"; coped parapet. Interior not
inspected.
