House, now a department of Sheffield Hallam University. c1860,
with late C20 rear addition and alterations. Coursed squared
stone with ashlar dressings and slate roofs. 3 coped stone
ridge stacks. Gothic detailing.
Chamfered plinth, quoins, first floor band, wooden eaves,
elaborate traceried bargeboards to front gables. 2 storeys
plus attics; 3 window range. Double gabled front has a
recessed centre with a flat-headed 2-light window with label
mould and blind Decorated tracery overlight. Under the window,
a stone balcony on brackets, with a pierced traceried parapet.
Chamfered stone doorcase with Tudor arched doorway and
traceried spandrels. Right wing has a cross casement with
label mould, and above, a quatrefoil in a circle. Below, a
canted stone bay window, 3 lights, with stone Decorated
tracery. Traceried balustrade forming a balcony. Left gable
has similar fenestration, with a cross casement on the ground
floor. Plainer right return, 4 windows, has 2 gables to right,
the larger left one with a canted bay window.
