Roman Catholic church. Dated 1870. Coursed squared stone with
ashlar dressings and steep pitched slate roofs. Shouldered
double side wall stack. Gothic Revival style.
PLAN: built on a sloping site with basement rooms under the
west end. Apsidal nave with side corridor, transept, chapel
and west porch all on south side.
EXTERIOR: chamfered plinth and string courses, coped gables.
Apse has 3 lancets with linked hoodmoulds. Nave has buttressed
south side with 4 lancets. North side has 2 buttresses to east
and 4 lancets arranged 2:2. Below them, to west, cross
casement windows and a door. West gable has a triple lancet
and is topped with a shouldered gabled single bellcote with
cross. Side corridor has 7 slit windows. Transept has a
2-light pointed arch window. Chapel has 3 slit lights. Angle
buttressed porch has cove moulded doorway with hoodmould and
engaged shafts.
INTERIOR has plaster vault with wooden ribs. Continuous string
course. East end has painted and gilt stone reredos with
crested blind arcading, central tabernacle and flanking
buttresses with figures, topped with spires. Matching altar.
Aumbry to south and piscina to right. West end has central
recess and panelled gallery with stairs to south. Sides have
doorways and figure niches.
