GV II

Coaching inn, now hotel. 1842. Gault brick, colourwashed on
ground floor; slate hipped roof with stack on rear roof slope.
EXTERIOR: 3-storey 5-window front. Central door with margin
lights behind a shallow porch of two Tuscan columns supporting
plain entablature. Ground and first floor windows are sashes
with 6/6 glazing bars under gauged skewback arches. Five 3/3
sash windows to attic floor, also with gauged skewback arches.
Left return partly obscured by screen wall of the adjacent
Market Hall (qv). Right return: tripartite sashes.
INTERIOR: stick baluster staircase with ramped and wreathed
handrail. Plain undecorated Assembly Room on first floor.
