Pair of artisans' cottages. 1909. Barry Parker and Raymond Unwin. Painted pebbledash given a pronounced weathering above the plinth of brick in Flemish bond; kneelers of tile. Roof of tile with swept eaves and exposed rafter ends. Eaves to gable ends with exposed purlins. Design conforms to a paired, canted bay type which is found, with slight variations in the design, throughout the artisans' quarter of the Suburb. The design is roughly similar to that of Nos. 9 and 11 Asmuns Hill (q.v) . Two storeys and two-window range to the pair, bilaterally symmetrical. As in Nos. 9 and 11 there are gable-facing half dormers to first floor, but here the casements are four lights not five; still they fill the entire width of the dormer and have weathering strip. On party wall is a flat-roofed dormer spanning both units, an original feature also found on No.27 and 29 Asmuns Hill (q.v.). Another point of difference with Nos. 9 and 11 is the stack placement; here there is an axial stack on each return and another to the front roof slope; rear stacks on line with dormers to front. Left-hand stack has been lowered. All openings are flat arched with entrances set in shallow recess with canted sides, one of which extends to form 11-side of deep canted bay. The roof of each bay extends across the entrance to form a porch area spanning the party wall and supported by a plain upright. Doors of original design to No.21. All casements of original design. The Asmuns Hill group is a most important example of a complete Parker and Unwin streetscape.
