Pair of cottages. Early C19. Probably for Thomas Bowyer, d.1824. Pebbledashed timber-frame with
pantile roof and gault brick ridge stack. Single-unit with pantry plan. 2 storeys; 2-window range of
2-light horizontal sliding sashes. Part-glazed doors with small gabled hoods, that to right with
ornamental bargeboards and finial. A further tiny single-light window to far left and right on ground
floor. Interiors not inspected. This little altered pair of cottages is probably among those built by
Thomas Bowyer for his workforce. He was an important local merchant operating trading activities
on the Swaffham Lode from a nearby wharf. (RCHM (North East Cambs.); p.111; Mon.55)
