House. Internal woodwork initialled and dated "JM" (James Maggerison) "1881".
Hammer-dressed stone, stone slate roof. Vernacular Revival style. 2-cell
central-entry plan, double depth. 2 storeys. Three lst-floor windows. All
are double-chamfered mullioned windows. 1st cell has 4-light window with
3-light above; stilted arched doorway with moulded surround and good stops,
original oak-door with good iron fittings, glazed fanlight; to right narrow
window with ogee lintel with single light above. 2nd cell has 5-light window
with 3-light above. Continuous cyma-moulded hoodmould to ground floor. Coved
eaves. Swept pyramidal roof with central ball finial. End external chimneys
of ashlar with offsets and cornices. Rear has 4-light window with 3-light above
to left of doorway (blocked) with chamfered surround and broach stop with single
light above. To right of door single light with cross stair-window above which
has octagonal lead lights and 2-light window with same above. Lateral stack and
dormer with small timbered king-post gable.
Interior: fine oak-timbered interior with good C17-style panelling, to most rooms
including chambers. 1st cell has wide fireplace with segmental-arched bressumer
heavily carved and bearing date. The original owner was a timber merchant.
