Appears to be circa 1860-70 although circa 1850 in Pevsner and ascribed to
E Browning for himself. Victorian Gothic house. Ashlar with massed concrete
base, the concrete construction probably continues behind the ashlar facing.
Gabled Collyweston stone roof with wide eaves. Asymmetrical plan. Right
hand, 2 storeys and basement with projecting right hand timber framed gable
with collar beam with shaped brackets and round arched bracing supporting
the gable over corbelled first floor balcony with wooden balustrade. The
ground floor also has balcony with moulded corbels to the lintel and pierced
stone balustrade, and with large wood mullion/transom window with tracery
and 4-centred arch doorway with tracery above. The left of the right hand
range has stone mullion windows, the ground floor with ogee headed lights.
The left hand range is lower 2 storeys and with an attic storey set back.
It has projecting timber frame gables, battlements, a canted bay and stone
mullion windows, 3 ogee head lancets to stairs, and a large gabled timber
frame porch. Ashlar chimney stacks with set-offs, rodinsed angles and with
carved cornices. Two storeyed bowed window with conical roof incorporated
into gable at the rear. Small 2-light pointed arch window with reticulated
tracery imported and re-used, and set into gabled projection at rear.
