Terraced town house. c1760-64 or 1798 origin, remodelled and refaced 1891 by
R S Wornum at the same time and in similar style as No 138 q.v. Portland stone,
slate roof. Neo-classical revival with rather Louis XVI details. 3 tall
storeys, attic storey and dormered mansard, on basement. 4 windows wide.
Rusticated ground floor arcaded with doorway deep set to right with fanlight
and deep set square headed sashes in arcade. Upper floors have architraved
sashes, with pediments on 1st floor, articulated by giant Ionic order of
pilasters with entablature carved over from No 138 and similarly pilastered
attic. Parapet balustrades removed; pedimented dormers. 1st floor windows have
bowed balustered balconettes; carved relief plaques with swags below 2nd floor
windows. Stone balustrade to area. Hall retains possibly original or more likely
late C18 plasterwork ceiling with enriched bracket cornice.
