Farmhouse. Probably C16 or C17 and extended at lower end and to rear early-mid C19.
Rendered and painted stone rubble and cob with dry slate roof with side eaves to
front on shaped brackets, hipped to left, brick chimney over external breast to
gable end right and large external lateral stone stacks with slate weathering and
brick shaft to front right of entrance and rear to lower room but now partly
obscured by C19 lean-to. Originally 3-room through-passage plan but extended C19 by
one room left and rear lean-to and outshut to create service rooms. 2 storeys, over
basement at lower end. Irregular 5-window south-west front. Original doorway with
6-pane door and C19 gabled hood with shaped bargeboard. Late C19, 3-light casement
over. Other casements of similar date except 1985 French windows inserted in hall
window position and 1985 top opening window to right. Window to room left of
doorway is wider with 4 lights. Several old casements to rear.
Interior: lateral hall fireplace with ashlar jambs and back and rough square timber
lintel. Thin chamfered hall ceiling beam. Stud and plaster partition between hall
and inner room removed. C19 stairs in widened through-passage. Lateral fireplace
at rear of lower room with chamfered timber lintel. Entire roof replaced in C19 and
much repaired in C20.
