House, formerly the manor house of Little Bricett. Mid C16 with alterations of
early C17, early C19 and C19. 2 storeys and attics. Timber-framed and
plastered; the upper-floor is jettied along the front wall, and to it a
plaster coving was applied with a wooden fascia in early C19. Plaintiled roof
with gabled C19 casement dormers. An axial C19 chimney of red brick. Another
of C17 near left-hand end has 3 attached rectangular shafts on a square
plinth. Early C19 small-panes sashes. C18 entrance door, panelled, with the
upper pair glazed; moulded and eared architrave. The core of the house
consists of a high-quality 3-cell building of c.1550 with cross-passage
entrance (the parlour cell at left was demolished in C19). In the hall are
ogee-and-scotia moulded beams and a fine open fireplace whose lintel is carved
in the form of a depressed 4-centred arch, the mouldings continuing down the
jambs. The chamber above has an arched doorway with leaf-carved spandrels.
The right-hand cell was probably added early C17; the inserted attics and
plaster ceilings (one with vinescroll on the beam soffits) are of this date.
A small parlour has complete early C18 panelling with corner cupboard and
fireplace; other rooms also have C18 joinery. A 2-storey wing was aaded to
rear in mid C19, of stuccoed brick.
