Public house. Mid C17 altered C19 and C20. Painted brick, Welsh slate roof.
2-storey, twin-gabled front having 2 windows to 1st floor; deep plan with short
side-wing off left return. Doorway to right of centre has corniced wooden doorcase
and is flanked by broad 4-pane sashes with projecting sills and wedge lintels.
Applied herringbone boarding to 1st floor; transomed 3-light casements.
Bargeboards with turned finials. Brick stack to left of central valley; lantern to
right-hand ridge. Rear: left gable has fragment of brick hoodmould. Left return:
gabled wing lit by early 3-light casement under brick hoodmould; remains of
hoodmould to ground-floor on right. Both returns show a ragged joint near King
Street facade indicating refronting. Interior: some contemporary ceiling beams in
bar area; remainder of interior likely to conceal extensive C17 fabric. One of the
few identifiable C17 urban buildings in this area.
