Shop, and shop with post office, with dwellings above. 1772 as on tablet.
Alterations of C19 and C20. Red brick; the front elevation pebble-dashed in
C20. A sawtooth cornice of brick beneath the eaves. Plaintiled roof. Rear
chimneys of red brick. 2 storeys, 5 windows. No.87 has C20 casements at 1st
storey and a bay shop window. No.89 has two original casements at 1st storey,
and C19 windows, including a flat-roofed bay, below. C20 glazed panelled
doors. Between the two shops is a round-arched gateway giving access from the
street to the Quaker Meeting House behind. A pair of original gates, each
having a single panel below and 7 spear-headed bars above a middle rail, the
head of each gate curving upwards towards the centre. At the rear of the
passageway the archway has gauged voussoirs and a limestone keystone with the
incised date 1772. A small C18 timber-framed and plastered wing behind No.89.
Within No.87 is one of a pair of C15 oak doorways with 4-centred arched head,
removed from another house.
