GV II
Lodge, piers and railings to Shotley Grove House, now Grove House. Circa 1826
for Joseph Annandale. Lodge incised stucco with ashlar quoins and dressings;
roofs of thick graduated dark slate and Welsh slate; piers of coarse sandstone;
iron railings and gate.
Lodge has one-storey, 2-bay front to road, with 2 canted bay windows with deep
chamfered stone mullions and lattice glazing; low-pitched hipped roof. Flat-
roofed C20 entrance porch set back at left. Rear wing probably early C20 with
low-pitched hipped roof; C20 one-bay addition to this not of interest.
2 chamfered gate piers to right of lodge have top moulding and octagonal domed
coping; between lodge and left pier a pedestrian gate has serpentine top rail
with fleur-de-lys finials and spear-headed dog-bars; similar railings to right
of second pier and extending from it for about 5 metres alongside drive.
