House and cottage, later subdivided into 3 and now 2 houses. Dated 1787 for W°A
on plaque over door with name CUTLERS HALL. Coursed squared sandstone rubble
with ashlar dressings and quoins; Welsh slate roof with brick chimneys. 2
storeys, 4 windows and one-storey, one-bay right extension. Paired C20 boarded
doors,inserted in second bay under concrete lintel, have central rough stone
pier and irregular outer jambs; stone plaque above has date and name incised
in Roman capitals; similar door at left of fourth bay in stone surround.
Tooled stone surrounds to 16-pane sashes in 3 left bays; flat stone lintels
and projecting stone sils to 3-light casements in fourth bay and in right
extension. 3 ridge chimneys on main block and one at right end of extension.
Historical note: built for the Oleys, one of the families of swordmakers of
Shotley Bridge.
