Cadaver tomb. For Charles Ellis Hessey, d.1874; probably
carved by his brother, Mark Hessey. Portland stone. Slab
approximately 2.0 metres long supporting a carved recumbent
figure covered with a draped shroud through which the facial
features and feet of the deceased are visible. At the head, a
group of three watching angels on one side was originally
balanced by a matching group, now lost, on the other side. The
name of the deceased is carved along one side of the base, his
date of death on the other.
