Gravestone. c1850. By Fisher of York for members of the Terry
family. First burial was Joseph Terry, d.1850. Slate tablet
raised on moulded stone base. Tablet has pedimental head
between acroteria and with open book carved in stone in high
relief in the tympanum. Tablet is inscribed with extensive
details of three generations of the Terry family, from Joseph
Terry, his wife Harriett, their children and some
grandchildren.
Joseph Terry, Confectioner, was the founding father of the
confectionary firm, Terry's of York. The stone provides an
unusual and informative record of the Terry family history in
the C19.
