House. Probably C17, extended at right end in C18. Painted roughcast rendered
stone rubble and cob. Thatch roof with gable end to right. Rendered rear lateral
stack to right-hand room, axial brick stack backing onto passage to left-hand room.
Essentially a 2-room and cross-passage plan, with 2-storey outshut containing
staircase to rear of left-hand room, with lofted stable, probably an C18 addition,
at right end, the loft taken in to form chamber. The 2-room and cross-passage plan
is itself apparently a 2-phase development, the left-hand room originally forming
the lower end to Ardlui (q.v.) to left, with evidence of blocked doorways on both
floors into the through-passage of the adjoining property. The axial stack was
therefore originally a gable end stack, the cross-passage and room to left being a
later, possibly C18 addition.
2 storeys. 3-window range. All 12-paned sashes, that at right end with horns.
Shallow canted bay window with 6 large panes to left of timber porch with slate
gabled roof, 12-paned sash to right. Plank door to stable at right end.
Interior. C18 raised and fielded 2-panelled doors survive throughout. Plastered
chamfered cross ceiling beam to left-hand room, which has early C20 chimneypiece
with inlay work. Cobbled floor to stables.
Roof structure over left-hand room not accessible. Over right-hand room and lofted
stables are 3 rough-pegged trusses with straight principals and side pegged collars.
Some of the rafters show clear signs of charring rather than smoke-blackening.
To the rear is a detached 2-storey outbuilding of stone rubble and cob with gable-
ended pantiled roof, said to have been a malthouse, 2-rooms to ground floor with
entrance passage at left end. The rear garden is surrounded by high cob walls with
pantile capping.
