Maldon Court School
GV II
House, now school. Early-mid C19. Painted brick with
low-pitched slate roof with 2 large Gault brick stacks, 3
rendered stacks and dentilled brick eaves.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys; 6-window range. Front has 5 plain sash
windows and a small sash on 1st floor. The ground floor has a
segmental-arched recessed porch, a plain doorway and two C19
windows.
On the south-east flank is a lean-to, 2-storey block, and
curved conservatory in re-entrant angle of this and main
block. Flanks of all blocks have flat parapets which curve
down toward the frontages.
The rear, north-east elevation to garden has parapet with
string band below and recessed bays on each flank. These have
curved-down parapets, a plain sash to 1st floor and a door in
that to the south-east end. The main part has a central,
semicircular sash on 1st floor with margin glazing and a plain
tripartite sash either side. The ground floor has a central
early C19 doorcase with pilasters, convex-curved hood and
plain rectangular fanlight. Either side are mid C19 canted bay
windows with sash windows in each face and decorative slate
hipped roofs with cast-iron crestings. This was probably the
original front elevation.
To the north-west is a 2-storey C19 extension with slate roof
and plain sash windows linked to C20 flat-roofed extensions.
INTERIOR: retains some early and mid C19 detail.
