Outpatients' department, now offices. 1883-84, restored and
converted c1988. By John Dodsley Webster. Coursed squared
stone with ashlar dressings and pyramidal slate roof topped
with a domed octagonal lantern. Single storey wings have C20
flat asphalt roofs.
EXTERIOR: 2 storey octagonal central block has 2 round-arched
glazing bar windows on each side, with plain stone surrounds
with keystones and impost bands. North-east side has 3 similar
windows and above them a large double side wall stack, now
capped, with a recessed central panel with round-arched
opening. On each side, single-storey wings of various lengths,
with renewed 8 pane glazing bar sashes with stone surrounds
and sillbands, several of them mullioned. Longest wing, to
south-west, has two 8 pane sashes and to their right, a larger
tripartite sash. North-west wing has a 4-columned Doric
portico covering a C20 glazed double door with overlight.
South-west wing has an entrance with panelled pilasters and
heavy scroll brackets to corniced stone hood. On either side,
a single window.
INTERIOR refitted c1988, has panelled angle pilasters and
cornice, with roundel panels above. Octagonal roof with
wrought-iron lattice girders with monograms in the spandrels.
Wings are linked to form an annular corridor and linked
offices.
