St Mary's Church of England primary

Primary school and attached walls. c1870. Rockfaced Bulwell
stone with ashlar dressings and artificial slate roofs.
Truncated gable and side wall stacks. Main range topped with
gable ventilators, and a truncated turret at the crossing.
Gothic Revival style.
Plinth, quoins, string course, buttresses. Single storey; 7
bays. 2 parallel ranges, staggered. Street front has to left a
gabled cross wing with a 5-light Geometrical traceried pointed
arch window with polychrome head and triple ventilator above.
To left, a 2-light cross casement, with a dated panel above.
To right, 3 traceried flat-headed windows, 4 lights, then a
gabled projection with a traceried 3-light pointed arch
window. In the return angle, a smaller gabled porch with
pointed arched recess and shouldered doorway. Both these
openings have polychrome heads. Right return gable has a
4-light pointed arch traceried window divided by a buttress.
Left return has flat-headed openings. In the centre, a door
with a small window above. On each side, projecting gabled
wings, the left one larger, each with a window on each floor.
Outside, attached boundary wall, rock-faced Bulwell stone with
rubble coping. The wall runs parallel to main street,
extending in a curve approx 120m to north. To south, approx
30m, with a rounded corner to Ragdale Road. On Main Street, a
small gateway with a pair of square piers and pyramidal caps.
