Former Wadsley School clubhouse

GV II

School, now club rooms and stores. 1838, with late C19 and
early C20 additions. Squared dressed stone with ashlar
dressings and slate roofs with various stacks.
EXTERIOR: plinth, coped gables with kneelers. Several windows
boarded. Single storey and 2 storeys.
Main schoolroom, single storey; 2 x 4 windows. Front gable
topped with gabled single bellcote with lancet opening.
Central doorway with label mould, flanked by single stone
mullioned cross casements. Above the door, a square panel with
an inscribed book in relief. Above again, a central single
lancet. Rear gable has a coped stack. Left return has 3 stone
mullioned cross casements and to left, a through-eaves gabled
dormer with a similar 3-light window. Right return has to left
a gabled wing with a boarded window below and a slit light
above. In the return angle, a lean-to projection with a single
window. To right, a higher wing with steep pitched roof and a
boarded window on each floor.
At the rear, late C19 cross-wing. Facing gable has a single
light boarded window and below, a 3-light stone mullioned
cross casement, flanked to right by a chamfered doorway with
label mould. Left return has a dormer with loft door and below
it, a window. To left, an altered window, and to right, 2
stone mullioned cross casements. Right return angle has a
flat-roofed addition with a door to right and 3-light and
2-light stone mullioned windows to left.
