Shop and house, early or mid C16 with early C19 alterations. 3-cell cross-
passage entrance plan. 2 storeys. Timber-framed, encased at front in early
C19 gault brick, plastered at rear. The first floor was formerly long-wall
jettied towards the High Street. Slated roof, the rear slope and wing are
plaintiled. Axial chimney of gault brick. C19 sashes with flat arches of
gauged brick, flush frames and small panes. Two C19 entrance doors (the house
was subdivided in C19 and later reunited): 4 beaded fielded panels, broad
reeded architraves with paterae, and cornice. C19 shop windows and glazed
door. The present butcher's shop occupies the service cell, formerly divided
by a close-studded partition; on this prominent site, a shop may have been
here from the outset. Heavy unmoulded framing exposed internally, including
some interesting reused members in hall and parlour. A short rear wing
adjacent to Bridge Street is original with coupled-rafter roof, but altered
and extended C17. Good corner cupboards of late C18/early C19.
