Farmhouse. Circa early C18 remodelling of earlier house.
Flemish bond red brick with platband. Machine tile roofs with
gabled and hipped ends. Brick axial and lateral stacks.
PLAN appears to be the result of a circa early C18
remodelling. Parlour in crosswing on left [south] with cellar
below,hall with rear lateral stack and small service room on
right; between hall and parlour a through-passage to right and
dog-leg staircase at rear on left with small room in front.
Set back on left [north] end an C18 1-room plan service wing.
A wing behind the hall is said to have been destroyed by a
bomb during the Second World War.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys and attics. Asymmetrical 4:1 window east
front, gable on left, 1-window wing set back on right,
platband extends across whole of front and around wing. C19
3-light mullion-transom windows in C18 cambered arch openings
with later brick cills; glazed and panelled door at centre of
main range with late C19 gabled canopy with wavey bargeboards.
Rear [west] slightly projecting gable on right partly rebuilt,
tall stair window to right of centre and rebuilt truncated
gable on left; on extreme left [north] projecting service wing
with platband and blocked window above 3-light casement.
INTERIOR: C18 and C19 joinery survives. Hall has chamfered
cross-beam without stops and large fireplace with unchamfered
timber lintel. Palour has moulded plaster ceiling cornice and
C20 chimneypiece. Good early C18 dog-leg staircase rising up
to attics with moulded string, turned balusters, square newels
with ball-finials and moulded handrail. Wing at north end has
re-used unchamfered axial beam. Chamfered beams in chambers.
Crosswing roof has large purlins exposed in attic chamber.
Roof over hall rebuilt. Dressed sandstone cellar walls below
south crosswing with chamfered stone mullion windows at back.
