The Tea House at SP 3395 8956
II*
Summer house. Mid C18, with C18/early C19 cottage attached to
rear. Front of sandstone aslar; sides of brick with dog-tooth
cornice. Dome covered in polythene, but formerly of lead.
Slate hipped roofs. Square plan. Classical style. One storey;
3 small bays. Half-glazed double-leaf doors in moulded
surround. Pedimented doorcase of rusticated half-columns with
vermiculation; left column is largely missing. Round-arched
niches to left and right. Interior: circular room has coffered
dome with oculus. Moulded doorcase, fireplace, and Vitruvian
scroll dado-rail. The design probably derives from the
Pantheon in Rome. Cottage to the rear is roughcast. Brick
stacks. 2 storey, owing to the fall of the site. All openings
boarded up. Derelict.
