COLEBROOKE COLEFORD
SS 70 SE
3/107 Burnhills
GV II
House. Probably C17, refurbished circa 1840, modernised circa 1970. Plastered cob
and rubble; rubble stacks topped with plastered C19 brick; slate roof of circa
1840.
3-room plan house facing west with entrance hall and stairs right (south) of centre
between the 2 main heated rooms. Small roan on left end. Right end stack and
central rear lateral stack. 2 storeys. Regular but not symmetrical 3-window
front. Central ground floor C20 bay window includes casements with glazing bars.
The rest are 16-pane sashes, all except first floor right with horns. C20 door and
wide hipped and slate-roofed porch on plain timber posts right of centre.
Interior: is mostly result of C19 and C20 modernisations although C17 fireplace is
exposed in right room. It has volcanic ashlar sides with neatly chamfered jambs,
a plain oak lintel resting on oak pads, and an inserted C19 oven in left side with
cast iron door. Roof not inspected.
Coleford is an unusually unspoilt and picturesque hamlet in which Burnhills stands
across the end of the main street.
