Detached cottage. Probably C16. Rendered timber-framing on rubble
stone plinth, double Roman tiled roof with half-hip to left and hip
to right, axial brick stack. Through passage to rear of main
stack. Two-storey, 2-window west front. Half-glazed door to
centre with 2-light casement to left and 3-light to right. First
floor has 2-light casement to left and 3-light to right. Left
return has added external stack. Rear with planked door within
lean-to porch to left, 2-light casement to right. First floor has
single-light and 2-light casement.
Interior has timber-framed partition on north side of through
passage, blocked open fireplace in room to right, deep chamfered
beams with stepped stops, exposed joists, planked doors. Small 2-
cell cottage with intact features, similar to the adjacent No 38
(q.v.), north room formerly unheated, 'hall' formerly in south
room, first floor not accessible, but original roof likely.
