House. Later C17. Timber frame on stuccoed base, roughcast with steep
old red tile roofs. 1½ storeys, 3-cells, internal chimney, lobby entry
plan house facing E with C19 or C20 N bay and gabled rear wing at NW. 4
windows long with 3 tall gabled dormer windows at the eaves, 3-light
flush casement windows with small panes, and plank door in middle.
2-light casement windows in dormers. Tall rectangular central chimney
with ovolo capping to rectangular lower stage topped by 6 conjoined
diagonal shafts. 2 similar dormers at rear with small window under eaves
to light stair beside chimney. Interior has 2 heated rooms with
back-to-back fireplaces, the room to S of stack is the hall with narrow,
service room at S end originally 2 small rooms. Rear wall has
surprisingly late Kentish framing with slightly curved tension braces.
The roof is constructed with collar trusses and no tie-beams between
gable ends. Trusses in partitions flanking the stack and at room
divisions below. Upper chambers not originally heated. Face-halved
bladed scarf in wallplate by stair. Chamfered axial floor beams and open
fireplace lintols. A C17 house of special interest for its plan and
