House, on the site of former Cloth Hall. Late C16 or early C17 single storey
building raised to 2 storeys probably mid C18. Large dressed stone to 1st
floor, smaller hammer-dressed stone above, stone slate roof. Large dressed
stone plinth, likely to be footings for original timber-framed building.
Elevation to road has 2-light flat-faced mullioned window with projecting sill
to left of paired doorways (one blocked) with monolithic jambs one hearing the
legend "THE CLOTH HALL" recently inscribed. 2 altered windows with slight
c.1545 - 1558
chamfered surround, another doorway with monolithic jambs (blocked). 1st floor
has 3 chamfered mullioned windows of 2 lights. Left hand return wall has
earlier roof line clearly discernible. Within this, 2-light chamfered mullioned
window lacks mullion. In added roof small window to attic with plain stone
surround. Perched precariously on apex is original carved apex stone with
crocketed finial. Rear fronts graveyard. 3 windows probably of 2 lights
survive with chamfered surround. One other of 3 lights. 1st floor has 3 flat
faced mullioned windows of 2 lights. 2 stacks to ridge. Illustrated in K.
