Lodge with boundary wall and gate piers. c1844. Probably by
William Flockton for George Wolstenholme. Oolitic limestone
with sandstone ashlar dressings and patterned slate roofs.
Side wall stone stack with 3 coped octagonal flues.
EXTERIOR: plinth, quoins, coped gables.
2 storeys; 2 window range. To right, a square entrance bay
with a 4-light stone mullioned window and pyramidal roof with
finial. Below, a chamfered pointed arched carriage entrance
with hoodmould and stops. To left, a gable with a 2 storey
canted stone bay window with hipped roof and cast-iron crest.
2-light plain sash with stone mullion, and below, a stone
mullioned cross casement, both flanked by single light
windows. Left return has to left a single storey canted and
hipped projection with a slit window, and to its right a
shallow buttress.
INTERIOR not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: outside, attached boundary wall with
chamfered coping. Higher portion, to left, has a board door.
Lower portion, to right, formerly carrying a railing.
Adjoining the wall, 2 round painted ashlar gate piers with
conical tops.
This building was formerly the lodge to Kenwood House, now the
Swallow Hotel (not included), designed by William Flockton for
George Wolstenholme, cutler and developer of the Kenwood area.
