Cottage. Late C18. Coursed rubble coal measures sandstone with painted ashlar dressings, quoins, gable brick stacks and a stone slated roof. Two storeys, two bays with C19 casements set in surrounds of former 2-light flush mullioned windows. Central doorway with massive stone surround and lintels and plain planked door. Later single storey extension to east. North elevation retains a 2-light flush mullioned opening. Associated with the small industrial settlement which developed around the water powered scythe and sickle-work at Birley Hay.
