Terrace of 5 houses, now shops with flats over. c1840, with
later additions and alterations. Stucco over brick with
concealed roofs.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys, 10 first-floor windows (1:2:2:2:3).
Stucco detailing includes tooled architraves to windows,
moulded second-floor band and crowning frieze and cornice
where original, with continuous low coped parapet. 2/2 and 1/1
lugged sashes to first and second floors, all in plain reveals
and with sills, some on feet. Ground floor has glazed shop
fronts with cornices on corbel brackets. Entrances: that to
No.2 to canted angle: C20 door with overlight; No.4 has
6-panel door with sidelights and fanlight with radial glazing
bars; otherwise C20 doors. Left return has triple first-floor
window: 1/1 horned sashes in tooled architrave with cornice on
corbel brackets and sill on feet. Second floor has similar
pair of sashes in tooled architrave.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
Occupies a prominent site and frames the entrance to Great
Norwood Street from Suffolk Road. Part of a fine street of
mostly 1830s and 1840s terrace houses.
