Remains of planned terrace of houses (Nos 55-59 demolished).
Early C19. Stucco or render with stucco detail; dry slate or
asbestos slate roofs behind stuccoed parapet with moulded
entablature; hipped roof dormers; brick or rendered end stacks
plus stacks over front pediments of end houses. Double-depth
plan, each house with entrance hall to one side of its front
room except No.49 (left) which has different plan with
entrance hall behind front room on the left.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys plus attics over basement; each house a
3-window range, the houses divided by giant pilasters. Nos 49
and 54 have pediments with small central attic windows, No.54
was originally central to the whole terrace. Many original
hornless sashes, some with glazing bars, some with horned
copies. Small enclosed porches with round-arched doorways and
round-arched blind side windows; parapets with moulded
cornices; No.49 with porch to centre of left-hand return.
INTERIOR: not inspected but likely to be of interest.
Part of a group of some of the most complete early C19 housing
in Plymouth.
