SS 80 SW SANDFORD THE SQUARE
(south-west side), Sandford

3/269 Linhay adjoining to north-west
of Star House

Linhay. C18, refurbished in mid C19. Plastered cob and rubble; slate roof.
Linhay and carriageway following curve of boundary; facing south-west (backing
onto road). 4-bay open-fronted Alcock Type T1 linhay with store at left (south-
east) end and carriageway at right end (adjoining Star House). Rubble store
has door with loading bay over. Linhay has tusk-tenoned cross-beams to hayloft and
front is partly fronted with C20 work. Carriageway has large double doors and
small reused C17 studded door and strap hinges with fleur de lys terminals. Roof
of alternate C18 and C19 trusses; A-frames with peg lap-jointed collars and king
post; trusses. Blind rear wall has strong townscape impact. Included for group
value.
