3/264 Coronation Pump
II
Water pump and trough. Dated 1838. Volcanic ashlar with granite trough. Pump was
in round-backed alcove with plain imposts and round head. Plain coping at top
rising over cast-iron plaque which includes the legend VR, June 28, 1838. Granite
trough below cast-iron pump setting to rear of alcove inscribed ARWG, Bodley, Iron,
London. A low forward-curving quadrant wall with C20 concrete coping adjoining to
right includes a rectangular aperature through which a stream passes over a low dam
wall creating a head of water. The date shows that the pump was erected to
commemorate the coronation of Queen Victoria.
