Description

SX 79 NE CREDITON HAMLETS NEOPARDY

6/118 Neopardy Bridge
26.8.65

GV II

Road bridge crossing River Yeo. Probably C18, possibly earlier, widened in C20.
Volcanic rubble and ashlar, C20 pine parapet rail. Bridge of 3 spans with plain
segmental arches having ashlar voussoirs. Square-sided abutments project from each
bank and ashlar cutwaters with slightly battered sides rise to flat tops just below
the roadway. On the eastern side the bridge appears superficially similar but, by
looking underneath, it has been widened and the segmental arches are flatter than
the originals. The road rises slightly towards the middle. The plain railings
were replaced circa 1960. In 1809 James Green recorded that the bridge had been
widened on the south side 'by layers of timber' and was in a dangerous state.
