Incised alabaster slab. The Latin dedication, as recorded by Thoroton, translates as: Here lies Thomas Fyndern esquire and Elizabeth his wife, daughter of Radulphus Sacheverell esquire of whom Thomas died 24th September in the Year of our Lord and Elizabeth died 1574. The Arms of Sacheverell of Ratcliffe above Elizabeth appear to be Argent on a saltire azure nine water bougets or, a crescent gules for difference. Above Thomas: Argent, a chevron between three crosses formee fitchee, sable. Elizabeths clothing and her pilow look like the height of fashion. At the foot of the slab are shown a dauighter and five sons. My careful pencil tracing on the photo is only intended to improve contrast. (Photo Aug 2008).
