Parish school. 1882 by Smith and Son; site given by Robert Dickinson of
Shotley House. Dated 1881 and 1897 on porches. Snecked sandstone with ashlar
plinth, quoins and dressings; Welsh slate roof with stone gable copings. Early
English style. One storey, with basement at west on slope of hill; 5 bays.
Chamfered 2-centred arches in inner returns of porches, open and with recessed
double door and overlight at left, and with diagonally-boarded door at right;
front gables of porches have plate-traceried 3-light windows, with dated
shields on leaf-stopped strings in gable peaks; large plate-traceried 3-light
window in front gable of left wing; 2 groups of 3 lancets in main range between
porches. Flat gable copings, with roll-moulded finials, on porches; steeply-
pitched roof has similar copings with stone cross finials; central Gothic-
arcaded fleche with wrought-iron cross finial.
L-plan, with gabled left wing overlapping left porch, and matching porch in
right bay.
