Manorial farmhouse. C17 rebuilt C19. Early hand-made and C19 red
brick with some C17 ashlar dressings; Staffordshire blue tile
roofs. 2 storeys and attic, 2 storeys, and 1-storey and attic in
irregular L-shaped range having gabled stair-projection to east
and 1-storey outbuilding at its foot. East front: near-central
6-panel door beneath basket arch in pilastered and pedimented
brick surround; two 3-light chamfered, mullioned windows to right
(a 7th light inserted between them); late C19 transomed casement
on each floor to left of door and similar 4-light window to 1st
floor on right. Massive C19 stack offset to rear of ridge on left
has cogged plinth, stepped cap and is pierced by 2 lancets; roof
dormer to right; oversailing eaves and verges with brick end
stack to far right. Wing on right: 15-pane casement beneath later
C19 casement under gable; end stack on right; wing steps down to
1-storey and attic. West front: C17 ashlar quoins and C17
brickwork to lower wall; C19 openings. C17 stair projection on
left has corner stack to its right; 2-light C17 mullioned window
to ground floor on its left. Two C19 dormers to main roof.
Interior: central room of main range has heavy-scathing timber-
framed partition, moulded spine beam and exposed oak joists;
massive stack to south, its original fireplaces infilled. Room
to north has chamfered transverse beam and lateral fireplace with
wooden bressumer having stopped chamfer. Winding oak staircase
turns through 180 to 1st floor and 270 to attic. C17 panelled
room to 1st floor centre has square panels, fluted frieze and
cornice; 6-panel oak doors. Plank and muntin door to attic stair;
lime-ash attic floor and C17 roof structure of principal rafter
trusses with diagonal struts; 2 of the trusses originally
infilled.
