Laithe house. Early C18 with later C18 addition to the northern end. Large
dressed stone, stone slate roof. Barn to left hand lower end. Large
quoins and heavy lintels to mistal doorway and cart entry which has composite
jambs. 2-cell house has wide gabled porch with quoins. To either side windows
formerly of 4 lights retaining central flat faced king mullion have slightly
chamfered surround with same over. Right hand return wall has 1st floor doorway
(now window) originally back-to-earth at floor level affording access to long
upstairs room perhaps connected with textile manufacturer. Rear retains one
2-light chamfered mullioned window over which is stepped light. Quoins indicate
the later extension. Similar barn entry to front. This is an early example of
a laithe house for this region.
