Church: 1878-9 by Edmund Kirby. Fiery orange brick and terracotta.
Welsh slate roof with pierced orange tile ridge. 4-bay nave, short
transepts, l-bay chancel, south porch and spire at the crossing.
Slightly Roguish Gothic. Plinth with dentilated cornice. Bays of
nave divided alternately by buttresses and triangular headed
pilasters. Gabled porch at left end has projecting coping blocks,
brick bands and a multi-rebated and moulded 2-centred arched doorway
with a nailhead decorated band above. Pairs of lancets in the other
bays with gauged heads and nailhead bands. A triple lancet in the
crossing and a trio of lancets in the chancel. Angle buttresses to
east end which has a giant moulded arch with a band of trefoil headed
blind arcading below a rose window. This has 6 trefoils and a central
sexfoil. All detailing is in moulded and decorated terracotta.
Triple lancet in the west end. The spire is a giant fleche with
wooden louvred cinquefoil headed bell openings on each face.
Lucarnes, lead finial and a weathercock.
Interior: Entry directly into nave. Brick and terracotta throughout.
Ornate cornice and wagon roof. Multi-rebated reveals to the windows.
Simple chancel arch and a similar narrower arch to the raised
sanctuary. Reredos of boldly moulded scene of the Last Supper in
gothic blind arcading all in terracotta (the gift of Sir C. and Lady
Greenall). 3-seat sedilia with a lancet above each seat.
