2/16 Western entrance to the
Saltersford Tunnel

Canal tunnel entrance arch: 1777 by James Brindley for the Trent and
Mersey Canal Co., restored and re-opened in 1984. Partly washed
English bond blue brick red sandstone dressings. Curving facade has
an elliptical stone arch at its centre. Plain band at ground level
carries a plain parapet with a rounded coping. Bridge ends in stone
pilasters.
