Town house. c. 1761. Built for Sir Hugh Hunlock,and then Lord
Coventry's from 1764 for whom Robert Adam carried out important
interiors in 1765. Subsequent remodelling by Thomas Cundy Senior
in c. 1810-11 and later alterations for Club. Palladian facade.
Portland stone, slate roof. 3 storeys and basement. 5 windows
wide. Ground floor rusticated with channelling struck to semi-
circular arched recesses of openings, the doorway up steps to
right of centre with semicircular fanlight; recessed sashes with
glazing bars radiating to heads. 1st and 2nd floor windows in
architrave surrounds, those on 1st floor with alternating pediments.
Balustraded parapet above modillion cornice. Late C18/early C19
cast iron geometric patterned balcony a cross 1st floor. Return
to Brick Street has large Venetian staircase window. Interior
retains substantial elements of 1761 decoration with grand stone
staircase with wrought iron balustrade starting in one flight and
returning in two, lit by the Venetian window, ground floor
doorcases and doors etc., also 1761 Palladian,and small octagonal
closets to rear on ground and 1st floors. The main 1st floor rooms
redecorated by Adam with painted ceilings etc.
