Stableblock and coachhouse, belonging with Old Warden park (now converted to
domestic accommodation). 1875-8 by Henry Clutton for Joseph Shuttleworth.
Yellow brick with stone dressings, E elevation rebuilt C20 in red brick. Clay
tile roofs. U-plan, one storey and attics, with rectangular turrets within
the 2 internal angles, archway to centre of E block and archway/tower to W end
of S wing. Loosely French Gothic in style. SW archway/tower: square plan,
one storey and attics, with angle buttresses, pierced parapet and hipped,
almost pyramidal roof. Round-headed archway. Semi-octagonal stair turret to
W, with 3-light mullioned window to top stage, and pyramidal roof. Wrought
iron finials. E archway: courtyard elevation has projecting gable, with
buttresses flanking segmental arched opening. To attic is plank door flanked
by single lights and with 3-light window above. In line with this is circular
bellcote, with sprocketed conical roof on timber arcading. Wrought iron
weathervane. S wing and E wing E elevation have C20 windows. Elsewhere
fenestration consists of mullioned or mullion and transom windows.
