Watkinson's Farmhouse

GV II

Farmhouse. Early C18, altered. Handmade red brick in English
garden wall bond, with sandstone plinth and stone slate roof.
Double-depth plan with projected porch and added rear wing.
Two storeys, 1:1:1 windows, almost symmetrical; 2-storey
gabled porch offset slightly to the right, with a round-headed
doorway (and recessed C20 door) and a 2-light casement above,
with raised sill and run-out rectangular lintel; enlarged
4-light casement windows at ground floor, and early C19
3-light casements at 1st floor, with raised sills and run-out
lintels matching those of the porch window. Extruded gable
chimneys. Left gable wall has C20 conservatory; rear has
coupled C19 windows. INTERIOR: 2 large chamfered beams in
right-hand front room. Forms group with barn approx. 20m north
east (q.v.); and with Old Post Office (q.v.) further to north
east .
