LATHOM
SD40NE HALL LANE
663-1/5/60 (West side)
Lathom Park C. of E. Primary School
II
School. Dated 1881 on north side, with C20 additions. By
Thomas Kissack, for the Earl of Lathom. Red brick in Flemish
bond with sandstone dressings and green slate roof with red
cockscomb ridge tiles. T-plan formed by a 3-bay main range
parallel to the road with projecting wing in the centre and
porches in the angles. Gothic style. Tall single storey with
steeply-pitched roofs which have triangular ventilators with
cusped louvred openings. The projecting wing has buttresses, a
2-centred arched window with 2 lancet lights and a hoodmould,
a slightly projected gable with open timber-work (as if for a
bell); and, rising from the right-hand side wall, a tall
bellcote. The low flanking porches are L-shaped and have
arched windows and canopied doorways. The gable ends of the
main range have tall lancet windows flanking extruded chimney
stacks which rise through half-hipped gables; the north end
has a flat-roofed C20 extension, and the rear (west) wall of
this range is mostly covered by a similar C20 extension.
Forms group with The Rookery approx. 250m north (q.v.).
