Barn/stores and house. Late C18 barn for George Uppleby of Barrow Hall,
with later C18 - early C19 house to right and C19 extension to left,
probably engine house; C20 rebuilt right gable end and alterations to house.
Brick with pantile roofs. Rectangular on plan: barn on left incorporates 2
rooms of double-depth house to right. Barn: 2 storeys, 4 irregular bays,
with extension to left single-storey at front, rising to 2 storeys to rear.
House: 2 low storeys with attic, 4 irregular bays. Barn: board door to
right of centre beneath timber lintel, flanked by 2 slit vents and inserted
C20 casement to right, and board hatch door and C20 inserted double garage
doors to left. First floor has 3 board hatch doors, blocked opening to left
and sliding sash with glazing bars to right. Stepped and cogged brick eaves
cornice. Brick coped and tumbled gables. C19 mid-roof stack to right.
Extension to left has large double doors, lean-to roof with brick coped and
tumbled gable, and dentilled brick cornice and stone-coped parapet to higher
section to rear. House: round-arched entrance to left with painted keystone
and imposts, recessed board door. Two C20 casements inserted in former
round-arched openings to right, with inserted board door with plain
overlight to right end. First floor: 12-pane sliding sash above entrance, 2
blocked openings and louvred hatch to right. Stepped and dentilled brick
eaves cornice. 2 raking dormers with casements and rendered cheeks. Axial
stack. Rear, facing Barrow Hall (q.v.) has blocked round-arched door, 2
circular panels and 2 round-arched windows to house and adjoining section of
barn. Interior of barn has pegged clasped purlin roof with large roughly-
dressed trunks for tie beams.
