Row of 4 small town houses in 2 pairs. c.1830, altered. Red
brick in Flemish bond, with sandstone dressings and slate
roof. Double-depth plan, each house single-fronted, with
coupled back extensions. (No through-lobbies: access to yards
by back-alley from south end). Two storeys over cellars, a
symmetrical 8-window range, with 1st-floor sill-band, plain
frieze and moulded gutter cornice. The doorways, coupled in
the centre of each pair, up 2 steps with nosings, have
round-headed architraves with 3 set-in Tuscan quarter-columns
in each pair, plain lintels, and semicircular fanlights with
convex moulded surrounds, Nos. 28 and 29 with 6-panel doors
(others altered). Each has one window at ground floor and 2
above, all sashed without glazing bars (except No.29 which has
altered glazing), all with raised sills and those at ground
floor with wedge lintels; cellar windows with wedge lintels
and gratings. Chimneys at both ends of the row and a large
linear multiple-flue chimney stack in the centre. Rear and
INTERIORS not inspected. Forms part of an almost complete set
of late Georgian lower-middle class houses in this street.
