Bank. c1908. By H Dare Bryan or RH Drake. Limestone ashlar,
roof not visible. Double-depth plan. Edwardian Baroque style.
2 storeys and attic; 3-window range. A symmetrical front has
ground- and first-floor cornices and a blind attic storey. A
wide entrance with Tuscan columns to a full-width entablature,
linked by 3 Gibbsian blocks to banded ground floor either
side, with plate-glass sashes with carved leaf branches to the
lintel and a plain block above. Deeply recessed half-glazed
doors. The first-floor has a recessed centre under a segmental
arch, with Ionic pilasters to the side sections with festoon
from the capitals, to an entablature and modillion cornice;
the central window has an architrave, large split key and an
open pediment, with a raised panel above, French windows, with
cast-iron railings in front of intersecting circles. Outer
windows have architraves, tall keys and festoon. The central
volute key and block disects the parapet, raised sections each
side with cornices and panels with swag and wreaths. INTERIOR:
rebuilt behind the facade 1974, and linked with No.31 (qv).
Possibly planned as a symmetrical group but the left-hand
section not completed.
